I Regret Too!

Text-Based Performance in collaboration with Halim Ramsis
At Medrar For Contemporary Art
2025

The text-based project highlights the language and behaviors within the art field that reflect the power dynamics between artists and institutions. The work is constructed through two overlapping voices: one representing the institution (articulated through the tone and structure of an open call), and the other capturing the inner voice of the artist during the application process.

This internal dialogue reveals the artist’s unspoken thoughts, often expressed with humor or subtle sarcasm, as a response to the expectations, tone, and implicit demands embedded in institutional communication. Through this dual narrative, the project draws attention to the larger framework in which resources are allocated, selections are made, and criteria are applied.

Ultimately, the work points toward a broader economic structure, interrogating how capitalism has shaped artistic labor in ways that mirror other problematic systems of resource distribution. It raises questions about the precarity, competition, and conditionality that define much of the art field today.

The project is presented bilingually (Arabic and English) by two artists, Rania Atef and Halim Ramsis.
